The UCULS Mentorship Programme is availed to only subscribed members of the UCU LawSociety. This is done by pairing upper year law students with first year fully-subscribed students for the sole purpose of easing transition into the first year of law school and the years thereafter. The UCULS Cabinet 2020-2021 has initiated a new twist to this programme where prominent UCU Alumni students and advocates out of law school are accorded to the various mentors and mentees to ensure that the mentorship process is superbly efficient and beneficial to the persons.
These persons are called Senior Mentors. As the Covid 19 pandemic has encouraged a shift to an online mode of academics, mentorship and networking have become much more needed. Law school is quite challenging enough without the added stress of transitioning into year one. Patricia Akia (Speaker, UCULS) will act as student coordinator for the program 2020-2021 academic year to ensure that senior mentors are incorporated into the programme. This is executed in conjunction with the UCULS Academics Affairs office and the Executive. Patricia Akia is excited to pool her intellect, personal and professional skills to make certain that student mentors, mentees and senior mentors gain an enriching experience from the mentorship programme.
The mentorship programme is administered through the UCULS Academic Affairs Secretary with approval and guidance of the appropriate persons including the Executive. According mentors is executed by marketing the programme, recruiting senior and student mentors and mentees, training student mentors on competent mentorship, pairing mentees with mentors and coordinating the required paperwork.
We continually look forward to the success of the re-structured mentorship programme and encourage members of the UCU Law Society to email any questions, concerns or interests pertaining to the mentorship programme through the UCULS email lawschoolucu@gmail.com
As student coordinators charged with identifying and incorporating prominent UCU Law School Alumni and appropriate persons to be senior mentors. Patricia Akia and Dean Natukunda will play a key role in the administration and development of this programme to ensure its success.
